Exploring the Wealth of Operators in VBScript
In this article, we'll discuss the entire gamut of operators available in VBScript. And there are quite a few! You already know some of them, such as the equality and addition operators we mentioned, but what about the more than 20 others you could be taking advantage of in your Web development efforts?
Operators fall into one of three generic types--Arithmetic, Comparison and Logical. We'll explain each of these types in detail here. In addition, within each category we've placed the operators in order of precedence. That is, the ones at the top of the list are evaluated before the ones at the bottom. You can change the order of evaluation by enclosing operations within parentheses. Operations within parentheses are performed before those outside; however, inside of the parentheses, the normal order of precedence is followed. Once you've mastered the whole range of operators, you'll be able to evaluate complex expressions and act upon the results in your applications.
